2021 Awards Program Criteria

The CIGIE Awards Program recognizes exceptional work across the Inspector General Community that has a government-wide or significant impact within a particular agency.  The CIGIE Awards Program is intended to complement awards programs administered by individual Offices of Inspector General.

To qualify for award consideration, all OIG work must be complete and the work product issued when the nomination is submitted.

General Guidance

In addition to providing the nomination statement that is written to the award criteria for which the nomination is being submitted, each nomination is required to have a 1 to 2 sentence impact summary.

Further, if your office is submitting more than one nomination for a particular category of award, you may wish to consider providing a priority to your nominations.  This could aid the committee in its deliberations.

Please review the award criteria closely before submitting nominations to ensure they meet the applicable criteria.  Offices submitting nominations for Special Category Awards (e.g., Alexander Hamilton Award) have the option of submitting nominations for both the Special Category Award and an Award for Excellence.  However, offices may submit only one nomination per Special Category Award.  If the nomination is selected to receive a Special Category Award, it will not also be considered for an Award for Excellence.  If choosing to submit a nomination for both types of awards, the nomination must be submitted twice in the database, once for each award.

CIGIE awards recognize the work of the OIG workforce and nominations are submitted by Inspectors General. Therefore, Inspectors General are not eligible to receive these awards.  However, if an Inspector General led or was part of a team, the team nomination may be submitted without the inclusion of the Inspector General.
